Participation in the 24th edition of The Best in Heritage

Throwback to when Boulouki had the honour of participating in the 24th edition of The Best in Heritage, held in Barcelona from 22–24 October 2025 in partnership with La Caixa Foundation, the Government of Catalonia, and the City Council of Barcelona, and under the patronage of Europa Nostra and ICOM.

Representing Boulouki, Dimitra Tsiaouskoglou presented our journey, how, in six years, we have grown into a community dedicated to traditional building crafts, recognised last year with a Europa Nostra Award. Sharing our story in this context was both humbling and energising. What made this TBIH edition truly remarkable was the vibrant and thoughtful selection of participants. Featuring 40 laureates recognised in 2024 by leading international award programmes, the conference gathered over 150 participants and showcased a rich spectrum of approaches to heritage work. The diversity of the projects, spanning six continents, created a unique environment where excellence was not just presented, but shared, questioned, and reimagined.

The programme brought together an extraordinary range of museums, cultural institutions, and community initiatives: from Finland’s Sámi Museum Siida and the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, to Spain’s Museo del Prado, the National Museum of Mexican Art in the US, the Museum of the Future in the UAE, the Simose Art Museum in Japan, the MaLiCH initiative in Libya, Museums Victoria in Australia, and many more. We were proud to see Greece represented through both Boulouki and the Salt Museum of Messolonghi. Set across Barcelona’s leading cultural venues: CaixaForum Barcelona, El Born. Museu d’Història de Barcelona, Ateneu Barcelonès, and the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya, the conference offered a panoramic view of global best practices and innovations. The thoughtfully curated format encouraged genuine exchange, as it blended scholarly insight with professional informality. We particularly enjoyed the conversations that sparkled about evolving standards and ethics, the methodologies, and the responsibilities we hold as cultural practitioners.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to The Best in Heritage team for the invitation, the curation, and the hospitality. Our gratitude also extends to Europa Nostra for supporting this invitation. The experience continues to inspire our work, reminding us of the global network of practitioners striving toward more thoughtful, inclusive, and resilient heritage practices.
