Open Discussion on the Adaptive Reuse of the Watermill in Moni Poretsou

As part of the Hands-on Workshop on the adaptive reuse of the Poretsou Monastery watermill, taking place from May 19 to 24, 2026, in Agrabela, Achaia, the organizers invite you to a participatory dialogue on the possibilities and prospects for the restoration and reuse of the historical monument.

The ruined watermill of Poretsou Monastery, on the bank of the Erymanthos River, preserves significant elements of pre-industrial heritage. Over the next few days, the monument is scheduled to be cleaned, consolidated, and documented through an experiential, educational, and participatory process, which is open to the local community and all interested parties

In parallel, a rich public program is being developed, featuring brief theoretical presentations, experiential walks, tours, and a small amount of ethnographic and archival research. This program will culminate on Saturday, May 23rd, at 18:00, with an open presentation and discussion to explore the possibilities for the adaptive reuse of the watermill, creatively linking cultural heritage with contemporary sustainability.

The event program includes:
• Presentation of the results from the preliminary work and documentation of the watermill.
• Open dialogue with the local community, stakeholders, and experts on the prospects for the restoration and reuse of the watermill.
• Proposals for sustainable management, energy utilization, and the promotion of architectural heritage.

The workshop is organized by Another Way Poretsou Monastery NPO, Boulouki, George Anastasiadis and the Cultural Association of Agrabela “Agios Demetrios.” The event is supported by the Region of Western Greece, the Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE) Western Greece Department, and the Municipality of Kalavryta. The workshop is actively sponsored by the Food Bank of Western Greece, the Agricultural Dairy Cooperative of Kalavryta, and Papakanellos Bakery.
