A special collaboration with Offbeat Travel in Tzoumerka

A truly unique experience for our team was our recent collaboration with Offbeat Travel in the villages of Frasta and Agnanta, Tzoumerka, where we welcomed a group of nine travelers from France for a week of learning, volunteering, and cultural exchange.

Together, we restored the old pathway once used by students walking from the village shops to the Frasta primary school, as well as the stone-paved kalderimi in front of the schoolyard gate. Along the way, we visited the historic Plaka Bridge, sharing its remarkable story of resilience and restoration, and explored our exhibition “Burning the Bones of Earth: Stories of lime kilns on both sides of the Greece-Albania border.”

The group also discovered the educational potential of the Frasta school, as part of the ongoing Keretsi program, and exchanged insights on stone pathway traditions in Greece and France, comparing techniques, materials, and cultural meanings.

Our journey continued at the Agnanta Information Center, where we learned about the Tzoumerka National Park, and in the village of Agnanta, where Konstantina Houmi introduced us to local folklore and guided us through the making of traditional bread, which we all happily shared at the end of the day.
