September began with a major step for Boulouki, as for the first time we implemented an educational program on traditional building techniques specifically designed for the technical staff of a local government authority, in collaboration with the Municipality of Iites. During the program, both theoretical and practical training was carried out on the construction of small stone check-dams in intermittent streams, resulting in the training of three municipal workers and the completion of 20 small check-dams in the Bouris stream in Kato Kambos, Ios.
The development of educational material on the construction of small stone check dams in ephemeral streams will follow, to be published and made openly accessible online. The educational program was created as a continuation of the Med-RESET project, which aims to revive the traditional practice of building stone terraces (small check dams) in ephemeral streams on arid Mediterranean islands.
