New European Bauhaus Award for the “Frasta School” project

Municipality of Central Tzoumerka & Boulouki | “Boost for Small Municipalities”

We are thrilled to share that the “Frasta School” project in the village of Frasta, Tzoumerka, initiated by a partnership of Boulouki collective and the Municipality of Tzoumerka has been honored at the New European Bauhaus (NEB) Prizes 2025, under the “Boost for Small Municipalities” initiative supported by the European Parliament.

The announcement took place in Brussels on September 30, 2025, celebrating 20 inspiring municipalities from across Europe that embody the values of sustainability, inclusion, and beauty at the local level. Among them, the Municipality of Central Tzoumerka was recognized -the only Greek municipality awarded in this category-, for the “Frasta School” project, developed in close partnership with Boulouki – Itinerant Workshop for Traditional Building Techniques.

The “Boost for Small Municipalities” initiative supports small communities in overcoming financial and technical barriers, helping them bring visionary, community-led projects to life.

Among the 20 awardees, “Frasta School” stands out for its hands-on and community-centred approach: The project transforms the former primary school of Frasta into a community hub dedicated to traditional and sustainable building, research, and hands-on training. Since 2022, the restoration of the School has unfolded through a collaborative, learning by doing process that brings together local craftspeople, researchers, and residents, and a diversity of stakeholders. The restoration is expected to be completed in early 2026.

The long-term vision of “Frasta School” is to nurture a local ecosystem of collaboration, connecting national and international partners and creating a space where traditional building knowledge meets contemporary practice.
