Boulouki Presents Delos Research and Sustainable Architecture Workshop in New York

We warmly thank our hosts for their hospitality and for the constructive conversation with students and faculty members in New York. It was an honour for Boulouki, represented by Ionas Sklavounos, to take part in the University Seminar in Modern Greek, where we presented our research work on Delos, which is part of the project “Farmer-Excavators: Folk Archaeologies in Delos”, with the specific event title “Telling the Story of Markos: Public Archaeology and the Restoration of a Farmer’s Home in Delos”, focusing on the role of local farmers in archaeological excavations in Greece.

The ten intensive days were rich in discussions on public archaeology, collective memory, and traditional building techniques, and concluded with a successful workshop at the Columbia Climate School titled “Crafting Alliances: Sustainable architecture through tradition, craft and stakeholder engagement”. We extend a special thank you to Lynnette Widder, Professor of Practice in Sustainability Management at Columbia University and the “Build It Green” graduate student club for their support and collaboration.

Boulouki organizes the “ADELOS” project in collaboration with the Ephorate of Antiquities of Cyclades and the French School of Athens/École française d’Athènes (EFA). The J.M. Kaplan Fund is the primary supporter of the project. The project aims to restore the traditional “Farmhouse of Markos” in Delos and study the rural heritage of the Delos, Mykonos, and Rineia island complex. Ethnographic research activities are carried out in collaboration with the anthropologist Despoina Nazou and funded by the Initiative for Public Humanities of Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNFPHI) at Columbia University and the Museum of Cycladic Art Initiative, the Cycladic Identity. The project is the main focus of the Boulouki Design Studio Department of Architecture (D-ARCH) at ETH Zurich.
