Cycladic Identity: Ethnographic research and experiential engagement in Delos

To celebrate World Storytelling Day, we are sharing some moments from the program “Adelos: Ethnographic research and experiential engagement in Delos” which we are implementing as part of Phase III of the Initiative of the Museum of Cycladic Art, Cycladic Identity, which aims to highlight and strengthen the cultural heritage of the Cyclades through innovative projects and initiatives.

Programme Purpose

The purpose of the program is to conduct ethnographic research and deepen understanding of the rural folk heritage of the Mykonos-Delos-Rhenia island complex. In this context, Boulouki, in collaboration with social anthropologist Despina Nazou, aims to highlight the often hidden or overlooked connections between ancient and traditional forms of material knowledge and sustainable landscape management practices. The project will conclude in June with an event to present the results to the local community of Mykonos.

Boulouki organizes the “ADELOS” project in collaboration with the Ephorate of Antiquities of Cyclades and the French School of Athens. The J.M. Kaplan Fund is the primary supporter of the project. The project aims to restore the traditional “Farmhouse of Markos” in Delos and study the rural heritage of the Delos, Mykonos, and Rineia island complex. Ethnographic research activities are carried out in collaboration with the anthropologist Despina Nazou and funded by the Initiative for Public Humanities of Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNFPHI) at Columbia University and the Museum of Cycladic Art Initiative, the Cycladic Identity.
